Besides a number of shapes and sizes, watches also come in a wide range of colours from white, black, brown, silver and gold to orange, pink, yellow and blue.


Fashion designer Nikasha states, “Chunky, big watches are in vogue, for example a diamante rectangle watch with a leather strap looks really chic and takes the focus away from any other accessory. One should try wearing watches that are different and stylize one’s look.”


Some common watches that are available now are:


• Dressy watches which are in Gold or any other metal and have plain bezel (no markings), with a simple dial and hands. They usually come with a white dial, and have thin straps.

• Sporty watches, which usually have heavy bezel with markings. They have thick hands and casual straps. These are usually water-resistant.

• Designer watches are very distinctive in case and in shape. The bracelet or strap is very well designed, and given detailing.

• Jewellery watches: They are heavily bejeweled, and the gem of choice, is, of course, the diamond.


Besides these four basic types, there are many watches on the market. The branded varieties include Timex, Fossil, Titan, Rolex etc.


Even beaded watches, watches with cloth straps; and watches with metal straps are very popular.


Finally, a watch is a timeless accessory that speaks volumes for the personality of its owner.
