If people are weak [especially children who are depending on you] and you call them a name they will define themselves by that name...until they realize that isn't who they really are. But if they don't know who they are then it becomes a problem. When parents curse children like this they will start to believe that that's who they really are and will slowly become that name. You're absolutely right, it's dooming them forever.
