Just three weeks of healthy living can turn back diabetes and risk factors for heart disease. In a study of 31 overweight or obese men, half overcame their diabetes or problems like high cholesterol or high blood pressure after following a high-fibre diet and getting 45 to 60 minutes of moderate exercise a day, for three weeks. It proves that it doesn’t take a long time to see the results of your hard work.

A Norwegian study involving 35 women of all ages and fitness levels found that those who exercised for 30 minutes immediately after eating a carbohydrate-rich meal had much smaller spikes in blood sugar. Eating too many foods that dramatically raise blood sugar (like potatoes) may “wear out” your body’s ability to process sugar over time, leading to diabetes, obesity and heart disease.

The study authors suggest doing a half-hour of light cardio (a walk or a bike ride, for instance) after eating a high-carb meal.
