Beauty & White?

I have seen enough of these fair & lovely, imami ads already here on Pakistani & Indian TV channels. These ads are trying to prove that having a fair complexion is your only option. They somehow want us to believe that white is right and every single person in the country should go for it.

What do you think? Has beauty got something to do with the color milky white?

For conspiracy theorists: I am neither a black trying to prove his point nor a white afraid of blacks taking over.. so shut up and contribute.

Not at all...first of all I strongly believe that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. What may seem beautiful to me may not be so to another, and vice versa. Secondly, beauty is versatile...we cant base it just on a fair complexion. The thing is, India and Pak and other desi countries hav it set in their minds that fair is the only thing acceptable, whereas in western countries it is not this scenario at all. Here, acceptance is wider of all types of skin color. I see so many people, I hav many different friends from different backgrounds and I see beauty as its own...not set by a single thing. I hav som Bengali friends who r dark but their features r so exquisite that it pleases the eye, I think they r beautiful. So no, beauty does not hav everything to do with milky white but rather many things...som people hav this positive glow from within themselves, nothing to do with their face but rather with the way they act or talk or even laugh that makes us think, she/he is beautiful...we should not degrade the word by linking it with this one thing.

A forced idea of beauty was the downfall of modeling worldwide. If this is now being forced in Pakistan, where is it going to lead to next, the notion that skinny is the way to be?

check out any matrimonials n u'll find it one of the "neccesity" for the girl to be of fair complexion. switch on the TV and they encourage/promote actresses who are light skinned than those who're dark skinned..

the thing to think about is that its not the outer beauty tht matters.. its the inner self that makes a person.. tht builds a person's personality and makes him/her unique by his/her actions and his/her opinion about different things.
beauty can be associated with youth..and youth doens't last forever.. i find it more essential to build up your character.. your confidence than run bout in order to look good!

Well. I dont' really believe this nonsense. The propblem is that Our people is rascist against their own people....they try to brainwash people that fair color is superior and girl with fair color would never face any problem of getting proposals. They should change that and make people to adapt the american behavior. They run after america so much and get westernized.. but when it comes to relationships.. they will still be same old narrow-minded Pakistanis. At least in america people see the talent and the personality. The Appearance and the looks of the person are not the priority. I think our culture will need another 50 years to have this concept and evolutionize itself.

^ that's Unilever Pakistan; the manufacturers of Fair & Lovely. So their message is pretty clear.. at least to me. What the hell is wrong with this country.. apparently no one cares about these issues. The artists here add more to it by promoting these products that promote racism.

Yea I agree with you Endurer. I went back 2 years ago. The things I saw made me sad. I felt myself... that I was backward by following my old culutre that I had 7 years ago and I still do because this is what Identifies us. When I go there people have so much hatred.. but then again why follow americans if they are bad influence? Americans can be a good influence if people use it wisely. Instead of having those private bins in internet cafe... if they have library section to research and put text books there.. it might bring a great change. YOu never know what can become a good luck for students...at least they won't go in the wrong direction.

It hurts me to see the entire nation going in the wrong direction. No one gives a damn about whats right and whats wrong. What matters today is what's IN. if my neighbor is doing it then so am I and there is no stopping me. It's a shame actually.

It's true ke hamare mashre main "WHITE" aur beauty ka choli daman ka saath hea!! Lekin essa herr jagah kisi na kisi suraat mojood hea, like jo loog "White" hain woh brown hoona chatte hain they take sun bath, go to sauna, they even use creams for the Brown color. Mere khayal say iss ka talukh insaan ke kabhi bhi satisfied na hoone say hea.

when i went pak people were like so obsessed with white colour but i am jus not am not white like snow white or very dark but not at all wanna change my skin colour jus happy as i am

kuch ko zahiri beauty attract kerit hai aur kuch ko inner beauty.
I cant say which is right cause then the people who favor the other would start a debate and really there is no point in it.

Waisey personally I go for the inner beauty. Cause external beauty vanishes with time, whereas inner beauty stays froever and only enhances with time
