Mobile phones owned by Children.
Should children be allowed to own and use mobile phones (cellphones)? Mobile telephones known as cell phones also have existed for more than twenty years. In the past decade they have become very widespread with almost every adult in developed and under developed countries now owning a small portable phone. Modern phones can perform a wide variety of functions, such as taking and sending photographs and video, playing music and games, and even surfing the internet. Their main use, however, remains for voice calls and for texting short messages. As prices of both phones and calls have come down in the past ten years or so, they have become much more affordable for young people. This has raised questions about whether children should be able to own phones, and if they should be allowed to take them into school. Schools in different countries, and within countries, take very different views on this issue. In some students can carry them as they like, as long as they are off during lessons. Other schools allow them to be carried, but they must never be turned on in school hours. Some (for example, New York schools recently) ban them entirely. |

That rule will soon change in New York. Because their mayor is changed now. Anyways hell yes students should be allowed to take cell phones in school as long as it does not become an interuption during lessons. Cause the rest of the time, which is lunch break or passing periods, are their own time. They can do as they like in their own time.

yah when they are not interupting during class lessons but how many do that if they are allowed to take it...i think mobile should be allowed with some specific/ reasonable reason...for instance...kids who are left in school with parents not reaching at time...they can have one...and then i think there should be a grade limit...allowing students that they can have mobile from secondary or higher..depending abt the place..

all these years students[children] didn't need cell phones during school hours and now they do? or should be allowed to carry one? it only makes for distractions..we say that restrictions should/would be put on students for using cell phones, but of course we know that students are going to find a way to get around it..and doesnt it also lead to cheating via texting or even pictures taken with camera phones..
and also if either the student or parent needs contacting..school offices do have phones for us.. we're letting kids grow up too quickly these days..by giving them access to things that they really dont need - what does a 6 year old need a cell phone for?? children should be given cell phones around the age of 15-16, but not any earlier - especially in school |

yah right and for that reason in first paragraph a reasonable reason should be there to actually find one in bag...and i think mobile phones call for more problems one of them text bullying...yah having age limit or grade limit should be there so that sensible usage be done..
here i hve seen 2 families who have their kids having mobile in young age and the reason being both the parents work coming in the evening...and if kid has a mobile he will surely want to utilize it where ever he goes...but somewhere in the line i think kids shouldnot be getting any mobile. |

Back in our days there was a lot that our parents thought we didn't need. I can't say that they were entirely right or entirely wrong while taking those decision for us but they did and there was no stopping them. I am not advocating for the mobile industry here neither I condone 12 year old's use of a cell phone. Of course, parents should draw a line for their children but lets accept it for a fact that kids grow at their own pace and so do their neccesities or desires, for that matter.

i think that cell phone should be allowed to the children with some specific rules as in a kid less than 14 years age can not posses a cell phone which costs more than a specific limit and and all the features in the phone should be age specific

I really don't see anything wrong with this. Honestly, kids weren't as smart as the ones 10 years ago. You can ask a 12 year old about anything starting from YouTube to MySpace, they live and breath in technology. I won't be surprised to see in 10 years time, kids as small as 10 12 year old carrying there own notebooks (laptops) or even PDAs to schools. Its the intelligence level that is extremely high and then there is always media to blame

Use Of mobile by Children is okay but to some extend its wrong.
Parents should give mobiles to their children , if their Residence is far From their School. |
