Pakistan at crossroad
I had thought never to post anything on DT. But sometimes circumstances force us to forget everything for a common cause and being an extremely sensitive person, I cud not resist myself to put on my views over here on the situation that is prevalent in our beloved neighbour country Pakistan. I love Pakistan for I have sweetest of friends living there including those I met in DT.
Pakistan is indeed in crisis. Its sad that even after 60 years of achieving Independence, this great country has not ye come out of the clutches of Marshal Law and Military Rulers. One after another Generals have snatched power and ruined the development of Pakistant for the personal benefits and anarchism.
President Musharaff is no different from his predecessors. Rather he has gone a few more steps ahead of them. Somehow I felt, that he had no other oprion but to proclaim Emergency in Pakistan, just not for the betterment and uplift of Pakistan, as he claims, but to serve his own desires of remaining in poweras as long as possible. If we go back and look at the stint of Prez. Musharraf, his citing reasons for proclamation of Emergency in Pakistan appear to be a big hoax.
Reason No.1 : Terrorism is at peak and it needs to be curbed.
We can just laugh on this claim. All along Prez. Musharraf has been giving shelters to cadets of organizations like Al Quida and in due course, Pakistan had become domain of terrorist organizations. And now, they have raised their heads from where it has become difficult for Prez. Musharraf to handle them. Demon has grown to kill even its Patron.
Reason No.2 : Over involvement of Judiciary in day to day affair
I guess Judiciary has been doing what it is supposed to do. Prez. Mushrraf is feeling this as a “Over Involvement”. But in fact judiciary, has never been so agile and judicious, in 60 years’ of History of Pakistan. May be it is a new thing for him but this is the need of the hour in Pakistan now to prevent a dictator to overdo things.
If he feel that people are with him and the country is ready for a democratic process to be installed, then why is he not putting off his Military Uniform and face a general election?
If he feels that Mr. Nawaz Shareef is no threat to him, why he chose to force him back out of country? Is he not scary?
And if he feels that Ms. Benazir Bhutto is a corrupt leader and she and her family member sneed to be prosecuted for the good of the country, then why is he joining hands with her?
He tried all his tricks off his sleeves, and I personally wish that proclaiming Emergency in Pakistant would be his last such trick.
I feel as well as we all in India, feel sorry for the people of Pakistan as they have been deprived of basic freedom of speech. Media, Mobiles and I understand, even internet links are jammed. We can feel how our friends in Pakistan must have been going through at the moment.
However, I have just one question in my mind. Is such a great country like Pakistan dearth of leaders except for Benazir and Nawaz Shareef? Are intellectuals so scary of coming out with their pens and thoughts to combat this situation? Where have the students and young people gone? Have they all lost hopes and handed over their fate to these leaders, who have put Pakistan in such a semblance that even Bangladesh appears to be a better country than Pakistan. Com’on. Pakistan might be running through dearth of leaders, but it has never had dearth of people with great leadership qualities and intelligence in abundance. They just need to wake up and recognize themselves. And its sooner the better !!
But I am sure, this is only a temporary phenomenon and there will be the brightest of rays awaiting them once, tunnel of darkness arising out of this Emergency, comes to end. InshAllah I wud pray for it !!
