Chew Gum Against Heartburn

Yes, Chewing gum is one of the most effective antidotes against heartburn. Heartburn or GERD, as it is described in medical terms, is a condition when digestive fluids from the stomach, flow upward into the esophagus. Scientists have discovered, that the saliva that is secreted when chewing a gum, can neutralize the strong stomach acid and even force the acid to return to the stomach.
In a study of around 31 volunteers, some of them were selected at random and asked to chew gum, for around half an hour, after their meals. It was discovered that the acid levels was significantly low in these volunteers and the effect lasted for a good three hours.
So, instead of opting for over-the-counter medicines like digene or a gelusil, when you suffer from heartburn, pop a chewing gum into your mouth after a meal.
