This is an ancient Chinese art of positioning the surroundings to attract the positive energy of Chi flow smoothly without hindrance. The word Feng Sui(pronounced as 'fung schway') literally translated means wind and water. Find out how the two basic elements of nature help setting things right.

The flow of chi has to be as smooth as,the early morning breeze… so positioning ourselves and the things we use is crucial. Feng Shui provides tools and guidelines for examining and adjusting the flow of energy into and through our space. It uses the arrangement of rooms and the placement of furniture to create a smooth passage way for chi through a home or office. Negative chiis counteracted in order to welcome the opportunities and encourage progress. Colours and shapes associated with the five elements - wood, fire, earth, metal, and water are used to create movement, balance, or protection, according to the needs of the individual.

Feng Shui was introduced to United States during the California gold rush in the 1840s the Chinese immigrants who like many came to make a fortune brought the Feng Shui philosophy along with them.

The art has been in existence over centuries and some of the rules have been adapted to suit globally. For instance, it is believed in China that the kitchen should be in the South to avoid the winds from up North to extinguish the cooking fire. But, in South-Western United States, the climate is very hot and dry and the kitchen might be better located on the cooler North side of the home for the convenience of the person who cooks.

In Feng Shui, it is believed that faceted crystal balls should be hung in a window or doorway or from the ceiling with a red string. It is very effective in blocking a strong flow of chi and radiates that energy out in all directions.

Water fountains that are today part of many homes, thanks to the minute forms in which they are available in, are supposed to be very powerful Feng Shui enhancers because they bring the energy of moving water into your home. Moving water is associated with communication, social connections, and with an increased flow of prosperity into your life. Fountains can be placed by the front door, or in any area of the house that needs to be nourished by water energy.

Black and dark blue doors are the colours associated with opportunities, social links, and vocational success. So those of you, who want all of these… go paint your doors black and blue….

It is very important to note that though the art seems simple, it has to be understood and depends on individuals and their existing life styles, repositioning every thing according to the rules of Feng Shui, is not only difficult but is like trying to make life perfect and our lives are far from perfect, so let the positive chi flow in and you can flow with life as it throws new surprises your way.
