Display of Members Celebrating Their Birthdays!

I just wanted to pint out that there should be a reminder of the ppl who are celebrating birthday at that day!You know like the other forums display that so and so members are celebrating their birthday today!It would help new members like me to remember and wish other members!

Saira kindly look at the bottom of "What's going on" where it is Desitwist news there to the left is an icon of type calender click that. There u will see everyone's birthday dates who chose to display in their profiles

yeah but u peepz can easily display the name of the members at the bottom of the main page..I mean one never eeally remembers to check out the calender daily..I know I can't..

I can activate birthdays on the forum home but it will stretch the page further down below because of the number of members we have; at average 50+ members celebrate their birthday on any given day and it can top well above 150s' as well.

Agreed. But atleast the birthdays of the members appearings on on one's friends' list can be displayed on the front page or just below the Friends' profile picture. This way friends could know the celebration of birthdays within their fraternity.

It was only a suggestion but if it's difficult to apply then it's ok with me!!

Thank you for your suggestions Sikander. I personally think that displaying friends brithday is a great idea and I will start working on it soon.

I am open to all sord of suggestions for the betterment of this community and I actually love it when members do that. So, if you have a suggestion to make then please don't hesitate to post it in this section.

I thing I thought was to put a limit on the post count say .. those members who have post count of around 50+ .. their birthdays will be displayed .. that would take out a lot of unwanted birthdays .. juz a suggestion

dere is no point in querying it everytime .. once a day is enough .. a really cheap hack over the top of ma head is to use a file type of TEXT .. a quick query that extracts user on a specific date and stores them in that field ..something like .. Aadi, Endurer, etc .. now weneva the index loads, it just dumps the contents of that field ..

We can be really clever and store *all* the HTML code required for producing the usernames (like age and a link to profile etc) ..and ofcourse .. u can make dat query a cron and run it once a day wich basically updates that row with new entries ..

finally from ma experience of working with MySQL .. what i've mentioned might just take 2 seconds to produce and da the end result mysql_query time is going to be less that 0.02 seconds

I have an alternative way of achieving that without too many modifications here and there: What if the board only displays birthday of active members? Activity level can be increased or decreased depending on the visits. I will look into both of these options to see what suits us best.
