Get steamy in style with a shower

Showers are now available in a number of sizes, colours and looks.


While jacuzzis and whirlpools might have become the latest must-have in bathrooms, it is the basic fitting, a good shower panel, which still remains top priority for most people. With so many new designs and options available, it comes as no surprise to see brands coming up with designer showers and panels.

Brands such as Kohler, Roca and Cera lay special emphasis on shower panels and have a variety of ranges available. You might think: after all, how much can you tinker with or spend on a shower?


Well, think again. For instance, Kohler has recently launched Digital Thermostatic Valve for Indian bathrooms. This offers a customised showering experience that suits any mood and circumstance.


According to Sharad Mathur, head, Kohler India, when it comes to showering, “People look at creating an experience with multi-flow showers, which can give a smooth, hard and pulsating experience.”


The shower range has contemporary styling available in different sizes, colours and looks. For instance, water tile showerheads are among the most unique showerheads and are gaining a lot of popularity among Indian customers.


These showerheads can be completely customised to accommodate individual preferences and can be installed in a number of different ways in the showering space: on the wall, ceiling or at an angle at the intersection of wall and ceiling.


A water tile shower can have one to four heads on the ceiling, two to six body showers on the walls and the placement is completely flexible — it is like creating your own shower according to your convenience. The price range of these showers starts from Rs 30,000.

Apart from this, there are multifunction showerheads which provide a gentle massage from a pulsating spray. Then there are the rain showerheads that offer a relaxing soak, and are crafted from solid brass in both contemporary and traditional styles.

The diameter of these showers range from 8 inches to 15 inches. The price range is from Rs 5,000 up to Rs 20,000.


Master Shower showerheads offer a soothing, relaxing shower which has three choices — a wide soft spray, a slow pulsating spray and a soft aerated spray.


Overall, the price range of shower heads start from Rs 900 for a basic simple shower head and goes up to Rs 1,80,000! The DTV shower from Kohler is priced around Rs 1.8 lakh.


DTV has a collaboration of various spa techniques that creates several unique hydrotherapy experiences. The DTV’s pre-set hydrotherapy experiences include up massage, down massage, wave massage, as well as temperature therapy that can either run from hot to cold or vice versa.


The hydrotherapy programs can be combined with temperature therapy; and for complete freedom of choice, all showering components can be operated individually. The DTV valve with its six ports has a flow rate of up to 21 gallons of water per minute (80 litres per minute) and feeds up to eight showerheads, hand showers or body sprays at the same time.


While hand showers are still being provided by most of the players, they are not too much in demand. According to a sanitary ware shop owner based in Gurgaon, “Not many people look for the old time favourte hand shower. People are looking for more stylish products.”


Similarly, shower cubicles too aren’t that hot in demand. But that could be due to the kind of maintenance it requires.


Some of the products from Kohler can resist hard water and mineral build up. “It makes us unique and different from our competitors. Furthermore, our showerheads designed to work in all water pressure conditions,” says Mathur.


More and more people are laying emphasis on the aesthetics of the showers as well. As Mathur puts it, “India’s growing fashion-forward consumer population with upscale tastes is spending their disposable incomes on bathrooms and bathroom products.”


Also, they like to have the flexibility for customising their experience by locating their showerhead as per their requirements, he adds.


With these new options available, taking a quick shower might just become a thing of the past!
