Length of men's hair


What is the length of hair for men? I heard that Muhammad (SAW) hair was below the shoulders. Some Ulama said you should shorten your hair, I also heard that you should shave your head or grow your hair below shoulders? Please explain in detail.?

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Al Bukhari and Muslim narrated that the Prophet's hair "hung over his shoulders and ear-lobes".
It is also narrated by Al Tirmizi that Aisha ( may Allaah be pleased with her) said that the Prophet's hair "did not reach the shoulders but it exceeded the ear-lobes".
Ibn Majah narrated that: "the Prophet once washed himself from Janaba (ritual ceremonial washing) then he noticed that there was a small place which was not moistened, so he moistened it with the wet hair that was hanging over his shoulders".
It is not reported from the scholars of Islam that they defined a given length to the hair. So, there is no harm in lengthening or shortening it provided that one does not do this to imitate non-Muslims. .
