41. The parable of those who take protectors other than God is that of the Spider, who builds (to itself) a house; but truly the flimsiest of houses is the Spider's house; - if they but knew.

Sura Ankabut or the Spider

33. And when our Messengers came to Lut, he was grieved on their account and felt himself powerless (to protect) them, but they said, "Fear thou not, nor grieve. We are (here) to save you and your following, except your wife: she is of those who lag behind.

34. "For we are going to bring down on the people of this township a Punishment from heaven because they have been wickedly rebellious."

35. And We have left thereof an evident Sign, for any people who (care to) understand.

Commentary: The punishment was a rain of brimstone which completely overwhelmed the Cities of the Plain (Sodom and Gomorrah) with possibly an earthquake and a volcanic eruption.

The whole tract on the east side of the Dead Sea (where the Cities were situated) is covered with sulphureous salts and is deadly to animal and plant life. The Dead Sea itself is called in Arabic the Bahr Lut (the sea of Lot). It is a scene of utter desolation that should stand as a Symbol of the Destruction that awaits Sin.

85. After this it is ye, the same people, who slay among yourselves, and banish a party of you from their homes; assist (Their enemies) against them, in guilt and rancour; and if they come to you as captives, ye ransom them, though it was not lawful for you to banish them. Then is it only a part of the Book that ye believe in, and do ye reject the rest? but what is the reward for those among you who behave like this but disgrace in this life?- and on the Day of Judgment they shall be consigned to the most grievous penalty. For Allah is not unmindful of what ye do--Al baqarah

(Charity is) for Fuqara (the poor), who in Allah's Cause are restricted (from travel), and cannot move about in the land (for trade or work). The one who knows them not, thinks that they are rich because of their modesty. You may know them by their mark, they do not beg of people at all.* And what-ever you spend in good, surely, Allah Knows it well.(V:273)

*The Arabic word Ilhafa literally means "to beg with importunity" but Imam Tabari in his Tafsir and the majority of the religious scholars agree that the verse mean,"They do not beg of people at all."

And the likeness of those who spends their wealth seeking Allah's Pleasure while they in their ownselves are sure and certian that Allah will reward them (for their spending in His Cause), is likeness of a garden on a heights; heavy rain falls on it and doubles its yield of harvest. And if it does not receive heavy rain, light rain suffices it. And Allah is All-Seer(knows well) of what you do."

It is Who has sent down to you [Muhammad(SAW)] the Book (this Qur'an). In it are Verses that are entirely clear, they are the foundations of the Book [and those are the Verses of Al-Ahkam (commandments), Al-Fara'id (obligatory duties) and Al-Hadud (laws for the punishment of thieves, adulterers)]; and others not entirely clear. So as for those in whose hearts there is deviation (from the truth) they follow that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah (polytheism and trails), and seeking for its hidden meanings, but none knows its hidden meanings save Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in it; the whole of it (clear and unclear Verses) are from our Lord." Al-Furqan

[1] Blessed is He Who sent down the Criterion to His servant, that it may be an admonition to all creatures;

[2] He to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth: no son has He begotten, nor has He a partner in His dominion: it is He Who created all things, and ordered them in due proportions.

[5.44] Surely We revealed the Taurat in which was guidance and light; with it the prophets who submitted themselves (to Allah) judged (matters) for those who were Jews, and the masters of Divine knowledge and the doctors, because they were required to guard (part) of the Book of Allah, and they were witnesses thereof; therefore fear not the people and fear Me, and do not take a small price for My communications; and whoever did not judge by what Allah revealed, those are they that are the unbelievers.
[5.45] And We prescribed to them in it that life is for life, and eye for eye, and nose for nose, and ear for ear, and tooth for tooth, and (that there is) reprisal in wounds; but he who foregoes it, it shall be an expiation for him; and whoever did not judge by what Allah revealed, those are they that are the unjust.
[5.46] And We sent after them in their footsteps Isa, son of Marium, verifying what was before him of the Taurat and We gave him the Injeel in which was guidance and light, and verifying what was before it of Taurat and a guidance and an admonition for those who guard (against evil).
[5.47] And the followers of the Injeel should have judged by what Allah revealed in it; and whoever did not judge by what Allah revealed, those are they that are the transgressors

"They say:'Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Truely, You are the Bestower.(V-8)

Our Lord! Verily, it is You Who will gather mankind together on the Day about which there is no doubt. Verily, Allah never breaks His Promise."(V-9)
