Sushruta of ancient India invented surgery. His Samhitha
describes a steel knife with which human hair can be sliced into
two. He is also the inventor of plastic surgery.

Sukra Neethi Sastra mentions more than 30 formulas of gun powder.
Ancient Hindus taught the Chinese about some fundamentals of gun
powder. The world's purest niter (more than 95%) in its natural
state is available in the mines of India. Marco Polo (of 13th
century) was financed by the king of his country with the
specific purpose of finding the secret of the Indian fire
weapons. The problems faced by the Europeans in making the guns
are lack of good metallic alloys to make the bodies of the guns
and the non-availability of good machine tools for making them.
Manufacture of the guns fell into temporary oblivion because most
of them back-fired or exploded. How did the British conquer
India? Not with their guns. The first war between the Indians and
the British took place at Mysore during reign of Hyder Ali. The
casualties on the British side was 90 percent and those on the
Indian side was 10 percent. The British realized that their
weapons were inferior to those used by the Indians. The Indians
had rockets and missiles besides guns and cannons. The first item
exported by the then British East India company was Indian niter.

    solar system.

Algebra, trigonometry and calculus came from India. Quadratic
equations were by Sridharacharya in the 11th century. The largest
numbers the Greeks and the Romans used were 106 whereas Hindus
used numbers as big as 1053(10 to the power of (53) with specific
names as early as 5000 BC during the Vedic period. Even today,
the largest used number is Tera 1012(10 to the power of 12).

Sushruta is the father of surgery. 2600 years ago he and health
scientists of his time conducted complicated surgeries like
cesareans, cataract, artificial limbs, fractures, urinary stones
and even plastic surgery and brain surgery.

The value of pi was first calculated by Budhayana, and he
explained the concept of what is now known as the Pythagorean
Theorem. British scholars have last year (1999) officially
published that Budhayan’s works dates back to the 6th Century,
which is long before the time of European mathematicians. The
place value system, the decimal system was developed in India in
    100 BC.

It is true that even across the Himalayan barrier India has sent
to the west, such gifts as grammar and logic, philosophy and
fables, hypnotism and chess, and above all numerals and the
decimal system. Will Durant (American Historian, 1885-1981).

The concept of Reiki originated in India, but it was rediscovered
by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan in the late 19th century. Dr. Usui was
a Shingon Buddhist priest and a physician. He read about an
ancient healing art in an 1100 year old Buddhist Manuscript and
made a brief synthesis of the essence of this seven level Tantric
    teaching as Reiki.

Indian astronomer, Brahmagupta, estimated in the 7th century that
the circumference of the earth was 5000 yojanas. A yojana is
around 7.2 kms. Calculating on this basis we see that the
estimate of 36,000 kms as the earth's circumference comes quite
close to the actual circumference known today.

The Arabs borrowed so much from India in the field of mathematics
that even the subject of mathematics in Arabic came to known as
Hindsa which means 'from India' and a mathematician or engineer
in Arabic is called Muhandis which means 'an expert in
    Mathematics'.

Pingala (400 BC) invented the binary number system which is the
    basic of computer operations.

Ancient Indians had more inventions than any other country in the
    world at that time.

Among all countries in the world, India has inherited the largest
number of ancient manuscripts from time immemorial. They were
written on the widest range of subjects known to humans.
