Victoria Beckham swears by her pairs and some women cannot imagine being seen without them. We are talking about high heels and how they have become necessary when you want to make a style statement. Here are a few pointers for the ladies who like to walk tall.

Choose heels that do not exceed 2”. They will give you a more comfortable, yet stylish walk.

If you are wearing a short skirt and want to give your legs a more elongated appearance, choose stilettos instead of block or wedge shaped heels.

If you wear high heels to work, try to limit it to not more than 8 hours. When you are traveling back home, for instance, you can slip into something flat and comfortable.

Take short strides when you are walking in your high heels. This will make you look elegant and also protect your feet from damage.

When you are buying high heels that are closed in the front, say boots, make sure that there is ½ inch space, inside, between the top of your tallest toe and the top of the shoes. Also stay away from shoes that are too narrow and cinch your feet.

Make sure that your shoes fit properly, because movement as you walk, will cause damage.

Choose shoes with a strap or lace over the instep. This will prevent your feet from sliding forward as you walk and protect your feet from damage.

Even if you are very fond of high heels, alternate between high, slightly smaller and flat sandals.

When you have to move around quite a bit, stick to high heels with closed backs because walking with backless shoes, causes your toes to bend claw-like and therefore strains the muscles.

If you are one of those who have just started wearing high heels, choose chunkier heels instead of stilettos.

Strictly avoid high heels on your night outs that will involve dancing.

Leather shows are your ideal option when you are buying high heels because they take the shape of your feet and are therefore more comfortable.

Remember: You might love high heel shoes but they are generally not recommended by chiropractics. This is because high heels cause the general mass of the body to move forward. Our spine tries to compensate for this by bending backwards. This can sometimes hurt the spine irrevocably.

Secondly, remember that your feet have to carry you a lifetime, so be kind to them.
