Thread: Aggression In Children

  1. #1
Although there r many aspects of child-development, Aggression in childhood is an important issue in child psychology.

During the last 30 years due to an increase in the amount of violoence in our society, there has also been an increase in the number of ppl who watch tv and the increase amount of violence shown on it.

The media is a powerful inf luence on young minds and should be regulated in some way.The question arises that should TV be used to socialize children at all?

lets first think wat makes one angry...?
i think the answer is when someone is forced to do something makes one angry....and talking to someone who is previously irritated makes one violent...

now agression due to tv...i dont think so...its that parents give them less time...

i think aggression can be caused by T.V
my younger brother who is 12 years old, he loved watching violent movies, n bcoz of those movies now when he gets angry he throws anything that he finds near him at us i-e. like glass, cup, remote, knife (yes knife too). which he didn't threw before those movies.
so i think T.V is also one of the cause of aggression.

i think agression in children is increasing as in today's era both mother and father are going on jobs and they dont have time to keep n eye on the childs activities infact they are also not giving him or her proper attention which he or she must have at that specific age... most of the time when mothers have to do some work they let the child see cartoons and movies instead of involving him/her in the work like agar safai kar rahi hai to chootay chootay kaam uss say lay liyay ... and ajj kal to cartoons bhi larai jhagray wallay hotay haein to most of the time children pick from tv as well ...

Time to introduce the PG button on our television remote controls. Pakistani media in particular lacks professional journalism. GEO tv here is infamous for airing blown up heads and widespread crimson without warning it's viewers. Our media is no better than those Rs. 2 tabloid magazines (Daily report, anyone?) who'd do anything to stay ahead of it's competitors. There should be a quality control department stationed somewhere in-between either by PTA, PAMRA, or the channel itself.

..Or by the Woerld Media Council.

Agression is on the rise. The contributions are elsewhere.Parents and the current generation socialise with TV shows rather than get togethers.People dnt have time to see their own children and aid them in development.Instead they cry 10-15 yrs later when their ward is arrested.

    Wake up People.

Agression can sometimes be a result of OCD and behaviour problems..but lets concentrate on the media playing a role. Yes i do agree that media has contributed to this problem. You only have to look at the programmes and the video games to realise that children are getting taught the wrong thing.

Some parents are also main contributers (which i have witnessed) especially in the desi household where anger and beating is a serious issue. Children pick up on these vibes and learn from what their elders are doing. If parents spent more time..relaxing and playing soft games with their children and teach them that the FIST is not the answer to everything ..maybe we would get a reduction in this statistic.

Busy lives and the easy option of TV is evident and the stressful lives of parents bring out agression @ times and it becomes a vicious circle that keeps on going round and round. When children become agressive parents do not pick up on the reasons for this...instead some shout & scream back also with agression and many a times a slap doesn't go astray !

What do we expect the child to learn if all this is happening

found an article...related to this topic...

    which in summary says..
Behaviors are learned, and aggression is a learned behavior. When children are young, the foundation is set for the ways they will shape their personality and behaviors. Parents and caregivers who use patient, consistent, firm, and loving guidance can learn to shape a child's ability to cope with his or her anger and aggression.

All children r occasionally aggresive and some r even more ggressive than others.Explanations for aggression r of 2 kinds,1.Biological and 2.By socal learning.By the word aggression most ppl include the idea of harming someone or something, but it is not something easy to clarify. The least harmful kind of aggression may be smply calling someone a name.
