Thread: Be the stunner in college

  1. #1

Your first day in college is something you will never forget. It's momentous, but it's also very scary. And 'fitting in' with the crowd is one of your priorities.
But how does one go about it? This is a stage in life when peer pressure is at its strongest and a wrong colour or style of clothing can either make or break you!

Fret not; we bring you some tips to tide you over this trying time. Just keep in mind these three key words -- casual, practical, hassle-free.

That means frills, tassels and that baggy pair of old jeans are a definite no-no this year. The same goes for colours. Instead of those blacks and navy blues, experiment with pastels and bright colours.

Finally, read up on the dress code of your college.

    The Conservative Look

Most colleges frown on any kind of skin show. So before you invest in those shorts, mini skirts or cleavage flaunting outfits, check if they are allowed.

Better invest in two pairs of jeans -- straight fit and a narrow one. Team them with a tee shirt for the regular morning lectures or shirt dress for a movie after college.

For the guys, a cotton shirt over a tee shirt would suffice.

    Skirting the issue

With the monsoon right around the corner, knee length skirts are the best to keep dampness at bay.
Where and when college rules allow, find every opportunity to wear knee skirts and dresses in bright prints. The vivid colours will cheer you up as well as prove a welcome respite from those everyday jeans and trousers.

Short cotton jackets will further the cool quotient.

And guys, show off those legs! There are a variety of knee length and three fourth jeans and trousers available in various shops.

Smart and casual, these half length trousers are a better option then turning up in college with the lower part of your jeans wet and dirty.

Where a dress code does not exist, show off those legs and arms. Nothing goes as well with the rains as a pair of shorts.
Girls, team those shorts with funky tops; guys, collect a couple of those sleeveless tops with 'wisecrack' prints.

A word of caution: while donning this minimalist look, short tops and very low bottoms are a turn-off. No one finds a hanging paunch or a butt cleavage attractive.

    Bag them

Tiny bags are not only inappropriate for college, they are also no longer in fashion. Invest in a tote which allow you ample space for all those moisturisers, lip gloss, eye liners and a couple of books.
Pick up one that matches your height. Very large bags do not suit a petite figure. The bag should not rest any lower than your hip.

Make sure that your footwear is trendy and comfortable. Ditch those heels and platforms, for flats, strappy sandals, kolhapuris, wedges and tennis shoes.

    Finishing touches

Accessorise the look with medium sized belts, beads and wooden bangles.
Keep make up to a minimum. Moisturiser and sunscreen is all you need for the day. To keep fresh wash your face a couple of times in the day.

At the most, apply some kajal and a fruity lip gloss for that extra touch.
