Thread: 6 seasonal makeup secrets

Every year, the way we wear makeup changes just a little. Keeping up with the latest, freshest trend can be difficult, with the speed at which things change. With these new make up tricks and tips, you can look your best this season.

Foundation in the summer should be light or nonexistent. Camouflage any imperfections with concealer and leave the heavy foundation behind. If you like a base for the rest of your makeup, use a light foundation that resists perspiration, and be sure to seal it with loose powder. Foundation can shift and run in hot weather. To lighten your current liquid foundation, apply it with a damp sponge.

A splash of color across the eyelids dazzles and refreshes. New technology that compresses more pigments into eye shadows allow us to pick a shadow that looks the same on our skin as it does in the package. Don't apply too much, though. These saturated eye shadows are easy to overdo. Blending is the key to this makeup secret. Keep the rest of your look demure to avoid creating too many focus points on your face. To keep eye shadow from melting and creasing, apply a light neutral powder underneath.

Eye liners should also be avoided in hot weather. They make the eyes look heavy and can run unattractively when warm or exposed to moisture. For a similar look, replace eyeliner with a dark powder eye shadow applied with a slanted eyeliner brush. The powder will be less likely to smear than pencil or liquid liner.

Since summers glow brings out the pink in cheeks, blush should be applied more lightly. A pinkish or apricot shade on the apples of the cheeks will create a luminescence. Lighter is better, when it comes to blush. You should look as though your cheeks are just pink. Any darker can seem clownish.

Another of these makeup secrets is to avoid dark, opaque lipsticks that can look severe in bright sun. They can be replaced by sheer colors and lip glosses. Now, even lip liners are available in translucent shades, to avoid the look of a sharp line around the mouth. All of these are available with spf 15 sunblock and many have vitamin E or other moisturizers to prevent dry and cracked lips.

Mascara can be tricky in the heat. A single blink can smear it onto moist skin. If you are likely to perspire, avoid raccoon eyes by using a waterproof formula, and applying it only to your upper lashes. That way, you can have dramatic eyes, but the color will stay put.
