The wet monsoon season can play havoc on the skin, making it either too dry or too oily. You need to take special care of your skin during this season Here are a few important things to remember:

Rain water brings with it a lot of dirt and chemicals. Therefore it is necessary to ensure that the dirt does not enter your skin. To protect your face, apply a cube of ice, for around ten minutes, after you have cleansed your skin at the end of the day. This will help to close all the pores.

Your toner becomes your other weapon against skin problems like acne. Use a good quality toner after you cleansing your face. It will remove all the bacteria that causes acne.

Use water based cosmetics. This will help to hydrate dry skin and prevent a blotchy appearance of oily skin.

Even if the sunlight appears mild, always apply a good sun-protection cream before you step out of the house.

Following these simple rules will ensure a healthy glowing skin, even as the world around you is wet and muddy.

    Clear Skin This Monsoon...
Monsoon is not just about romantic rain and hot cups of coffee, it is also about a multitude of skin problems. Suparna Trikha Diwan of suparna’s Aaveda, a natural skin and hair clinic, based in Delhi, gives a simple home made solution to the monsoon beauty problem of…

    Acne and Sticky skin

    Ingredients:
    4 tbsp Fuller’s Earth
    ½ tsp camphor powder
    1 tsp fresh neem paste
    ½ tsp mint paste
    Rose water to blend

    Treatment:
Mix all the ingredients to a smooth paste and store in a jar in the fridge. When you return home after a day out, splash your face with water, massage well with this mix and wash off with ice cold water. Not only will this improve blood circulation, but it will give a wonderful natural glow, leaving your skin clean and devoid of stickiness.

    Suparna’s Tip:
To reduce stickiness, you can make this wonderful clay wash which peps up the dullest of skins and also acts as an antiseptic face wash, reducing chances of pimples.

    Dolling up this monsoon
The much awaited showers spell a fresh break from the soaring mercury but the surreal weather also brings with it a fair amount of humidity, grime and general stickiness in the air. And while the rains can uplift your senses to the seventh skies the attendant humidity takes a toll on your hair, skin and looks. And let’s face it; we women need to look pretty no matter what the weather. Dressing up and looking good is a way of life for us. So why should it change in the monsoons.

Gunjan Katyal, a makeup expert gives us few tips for dolling up this monsoon…

    1. One should always use a sun screen, even in the rainy season because ultra-violet rays can penetrate even through the clouds. It should preferably be an oil free sunscreen. Opt for a sunscreen with SPF 30 for about 15-20 minutes before going outside during the daytime.

    2. One should use a water-based moisturizer during monsoon to keep away the oily skin, acne and water loss due to perspiration and sweating.

    3. One should avoid using foundation and prepare the base of your makeup using powder. Powder should only be used sparingly to blot the shine off of your nose. An overuse of powder can give the skin a chalky, sickly look so be careful with that.

    4. As for the eye shadows, one must stick to powder formulas, since creams can melt off the face. Think sheer and pastel. For the eyes, stick to light pinks, nudes and pastels (of course depending on your skin colour).

    5. Forget eyeliner/kajal during monsoons. Try using your eye pencil or apply a dark eye shadow on your eyelids with eyeliner brush. Use a coat or two of waterproof mascara. You can tame your unruly brows by using a little transparent mascara.

    6. One can use a cheek stain, a type of liquid blusher that needs to be blended into the cheeks and stays on for a good amount of time. It looks prettiest when you can't tell that you're wearing it! For the cheeks, pick out the color your cheeks get when you've spent a few hours in the sun -- either a pretty rose or peach, again depending on your skin colour. . Never go overboard with rouge, it looks far from flattering when you are outdoors on a cloudy day.

    7. Use the long lasting colour or stay /non transfer variety of lipsticks. Go for a soft brown or pink shade with sheer gloss. Stay away from liquid lip colours this season. And don’t forget to always wear a smile to match.

    8. Keep your hairstyles simple and easy. Elaborate hairstyles are more difficult to manage and redo. Limp damp hair does not look good either.
You may use bangs and layered hairstyles instead.

Besides the above one should always use good quality products, it may seem like you’re paying too much, but your face will thank you for it!
