Late in 1975 there was a livery modification when double line of stars was removed from the fin of aircraft as the first step in a complete modernization program and livery redesign. Fuselage color scheme remained unchanged with white upper fuselage and green color PAKISTAN INTERNATIONAL titles with Pakistan flag near first door of the aircraft. Cheatline was kept green color and it covered cabin window line.

    Liveries in 1980's
The totally new livery of green and gold designed by London design consultants Negus and Negus was introduced on PIA's first Boeing 747-200B on May 1st 1976.This livery made good use of the national colors of green and white, enhanced by a gold cabin window line above a broad peacock green band extending the length of the fuselage. The new livery for the first time introduced stylized Urdu script PIA initials designed by a London-based Chinese artist. Pakistan International titles in green alongside stylized Urdu script PIA initials in gold, were displayed on the upper forward fuselage. White PIA initials highlighted the all green tail fin.

Old timers recall that in the late 70s, when the green and gold livery was first introduced, it used to turn heads and earn admiring comments. Even at busy international airports worldwide, the PIA aircraft's peacock green tail helped it to stand out in the crowd.

    Liveries in 1990's

n 1991, designed by Negus and Negus of London, PIA unveiled its sporty 90s look. Upper fuselage was in white color with titles, Pakistan International, reduced to just one word: Pakistan in green color. PIA initials in stylized Urdu were retained and were painted in grass green color on the upper fuselage of 747s and on the lower fuselage of other aircraft of the fleet. Fin livery comprised the white PIA initials on an all green fin with white color leading edge. On the lower fuselage, a broad green band covered the belly of aircraft and was cut off forward by three angled chevrons of dark green, grass green and pale blue color. The dark green chevron represented the famous PIA green and Pakistan's beauty and fertility. Sporty grass green and pale blue chevrons, a symbol of sport, highlighted PIA's sponsorship of games of every kind. No other airline in the world has supported the cause of sport and sportsmen worldwide, the way PIA has.

    Liveries in 1999 to 2004

This livery was unveiled with the induction of 747-300s in 1999. In this livery all-white fuselage was combined with enlarged green Pakistan titles and light green PIA initials in stylized Urdu script on forward fuselage. White PIA initials highlighted an all green tailfin which had a white leading edge. This livery design was applied on a very limited number of PIA aircraft. Only few months later this livery design was dis-continued and most of the aircraft painted in this livery were re-painted in 1990s livery. Boeing 747-300s continued sporting this livery design.

This livery was introduced on some of the aircraft with traditional Pakistani floral patterns, known as 'Pashmina' and 'Kashikari', painted in light green color over a dark green background of tail fin with white PIA initials, however, this floral patterns fin livery was replaced by the standard PIA fin livery a few months later. Some 747-300s were also seen with small Pakistan titles when this livery was first introduced in 1999.

Liveries from 2004 to up till now

In January of 2004 PIA introduced brand new livery with the induction of Boeing 777 aircraft in its fleet. A diagonal dark green band is used to divide fuselage into two colors. Forward part of the fuselage is in white color. The rear portion of the fuselage is in off-white color. PIA in billboard style is placed on forward portion of the fuselage. Airline's stylized Urdu logo is retained and placed just behind cockpit windows. Wavy Pakistan flag is sported by an all off-white tail fin.

In the beginning, this livery was slightly different from its present appearance. In its early version there was all-white tail fin with simple green PIA painted on it. PAKISTAN titles were placed on forward fuselage. A small Pakistan flag was painted behind aircraft's rear door on both sides.

On March 14, 2006, PIA announced partial change in its aircraft livery. The airline decided to replace Pakistan flag on aircraft's tail with motifs characteristics of the four provinces comprising Pakistan and repositioned Pakistan flag on main fuselage of the aircraft. Under this change, every aircraft will be named after the most remarkable characteristic of each province.
