Make The Scene: Emo Style Hair
In the beginning, Emo meant the music: a form of punk. Then the music became the fashion. You know the look: straight, skinny jeans or short skirts with studded belts and figure hugging tops, super heavy eye make-up and pale skin, vivid, canvas skateboarder sneaker, and plenty of skulls, piercings, and tattoos.
Hair is an obviously dyed black or blonde, with a long fringe of bangs and streaks of brilliant color. One of the most popular hair styles is known as the “scene” hair. Scene hair is a short, choppy, blunt cut with lots of layers. If you are thinking about the scene hair, make sure you familiarize yourself with what sets it apart from other styles.
First Things First
Your hair has to be long enough so your bangs reach at least your cheeks. If you want a real “fringe”, your bangs need to reach your chin.
You can cut this yourself of have a stylist cut it. It’s choppy enough you can actually get away with cutting it on your own.
Elements of Scene Hair
The bangs have to be tapered to cover one eye. The rest of the hair has to be cut in choppy blocks, just an inch or so below the nape of your neck. There is a movement afoot for longer layers now and it’s very cool. But the most obvious layers are short around the head, with wisps of long hair if long hair is desired.
Once Cut
Your hair has to be straight. If it isn’t straight naturally, you can either have it straightened, or use a ceramic straightening tool.
Add Color
Scene Hair is black or blond. Very blond! Once colored, you will want to add streaks. With blond hair, bright blue or pink streaks are cool. If your hair is black, you will probably have to stick to blond or very light streaks
Finishing Touches
For an even more interesting look, use wax to separate and slightly spike the layers, then hold in place with spray.
The most important element to the Emo look, and therefore Emo hair, is individual expression and creativity. The wilder you get, the more you’ve got the idea.
