Thread: Pakistan can become hub of information technology: Berkin

    KARACHI: Chairman of Microsoft Middle East and Africa Emre Berkin has said Pakistan has the potential to be the regional and global hub of the information technology. Better organization of all elements in the country needed for it, he told senior analyst Farhan Bukhari in an exclusive chat.

    He said all required elements exist in Pakistan to make it a regional even global hub of the information technology, what is needed is to organize them in a way for their optimum utilization.

    No person can deny the role of Information Technology in development of a nation, he said. There are three key areas in this respect including the government sector. Information Communication Technology has crucial role in good governance including better government performance and effective enforcement of the government policies. This is only possible when the government and all its policies organized on modern lines, which definitely improves government institutions’ performance and better service to the people, he said.

    On a question about intellectual property rights in Pakistan, the Microsoft regional chief said Pakistan will need to ensure protection of the intellectual property and effective enforcement of the laws regarding protection of the intellectual property rights for development of the IT sector in the country.

    Chairman of Microsoft Middle East and Africa Emre Berkin has said the Microsoft was interested to invest more in IT education and other projects of the information technology in the country. He was talking to Sindh IT Minister Mustafa Kamal in a meeting here.

    Microsoft Country Manager Pakistan Jawwad Rehman was also present on the occasion.

    Mr. Emre Berkin said that his company was interested in investment in the IT sector projects as the country had the potential of playing a global role in the IT services. The investment will be made in both public and private sectors, he said.

    Mr. Berkin also showed his company’s interest to invest in various projects in megalopolis of Karachi.

    affiliation with india can certainly do wonders for our IT industry.

    Not really. I've seen some Geniuses from Pak too, but the government doesn't support em to do sumthing.
