A lawajab clash

Here’s some incredible news — two Shah Rukh Khan films will clash on December 17. Not only does his film Ashutosh Gowariker’s Swades release then, but so does Hum Hain Lajawab — the Hindi dubbed version of the American hit film The Incredibles — to which Khan has lent his voice. His favourite hero is Batman (“Because he’s a little dark, has a cool car and a sidekick he can kick around”), but the first superhero Bollywood’s own super hero Shah Rukh Khan is playing is Mr Incredible, aka Mr Lajawab, aka Baldev Pal. The Disney-Pixar animated film, directed by Brad Bird, also has the dubbed voices of Rakshanda Khan, Jaaved Jafferi (who has also written the Hindi dialogues), Vindu Dara Singh and Aryan Khan.Daddy Khan thanked Sony Pictures for giving his son Aryan his first job, “and his first pay cheque.”Aryan however was absent from the press conference for Hum Hain Lajawab at the Taj Land’s End hotel, Bandra, yesterday as was he “bathing his new dog at home who he’s named Dash after his character in the film.”Asked whether he would be agreeable to doing more dubbing work for animated films, Khan said, “The same high level of animation has not been achieved yet in India. Abroad, the budgets are big and animation needs to have universal appeal. In India, we are used to dubbing for ourselves, though even that is changing with synch sound. Here you are lending your voice to an existing character and not everyone has the talent to lend their voice to another character. But I have enjoyed it and would love to do more.”
