Pass the butter ~ ~ ~ ~ This is interesting.

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavorings.

    DO YOU KNOW...
the difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at
8 grams compared to 5 grams.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by
53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.

Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

    And now, for Margarine..

Very high in trans fatty acids.

Triple risk of coronary heart disease.

Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)

Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold.

    Lowers quality of breast milk.

    Decreases immune response.

    Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing fact.... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS! VERY INTERESTING!

    Margarine is but
ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC..

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).
    You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:

    * no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

    * it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Muzna, all you are doing is perpetuating a completely false LIE!!! I really hope you don't believe this crap because if you do you are what I like to call gullible. Here is a response from another site (who actually did their scientific research before coming to conclusions:

Your post count must be 1 in order to see this link. You currently have 0 post(s)

    Read #2 (Regarding margarine)

You know what else is only 1 molecule away from plastic? How about thousands of other naturally occurring compounds in your body. Do you have any science background?

**EDIT** Another example of the "one molecule away" idiocy: Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas.

JESUS dumb people piss me off.

Allow me, if you will, to disprove your claims.

1.Margarine is NOT turkey poison! It was invented in 19th century France to serve the exact purpose it does. Be a cheap butter substitute.

    2. Margarine IS only one molecule away from being plastic, but that statement is not right just because its not wrong. All that is is a meaningless statement. You know water is, just like SlayerOfDumbPeople said, only one molecule away from being the gas that blew up the Hindenburg. It's like saying dice is only one letter away from dick.

(sarcasm) OOOH STEY AWAY FROM WATER OR YOULL BLOW UP LIEK THA HINDANBERG!!! (sarcasm)

One molecule changes a real damn lot of things, doesn't it. Oh, and by the way nice use of capitalization to make things seem important.

And I'd like to thank STFU for copying that exact response from an article on Cracked.com, which was even linked to on this page. It makes you look a lot more idiotic when even your personal attacks against someone are straight from an article made two years ago by someone ten times as clever as you.

I think it's best to avoid them both. If I have to use something I'll use butter or margarine. Margarine is usually cheaper than butter. Both aren't that great for your health. As far as being one molecule away from being plastic, you can change a lot of things by changing the molecule structure. For instance salt is sodium and chlorine but you wouldn't put chlorine on your food. You'd put it in your pool.

    Bullshit

I would love to know how they came up with that turkey story (maybeyou misunderstood the whole "Butterball" thing?). Margarine is just made from vegetable oil (or some other kind of plant or animal fat) and was invented as a cheaper substitute for butter in 19th Century France.

    http :// en.wikipedia.org /wiki/ Margarine #History

It's true that margarine is white until they add yellow coloring to it. But guess what, that cheese on your hamburger wasn't orange until they added an orange dye to it.The cherries on your sundae weren't red until they dyed those too. Who gives a shit?

Far more retarded is the capitalized-so-you-know-it's-true statement, "MARGARINE IS ONE MOLECULE AWAY FROM PLASTIC."

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas.
