PIA hired famous national and international dress designers for designing of uniforms worn by its flight attendants. These designers include famous names like Feroze Cowasji, Pierre Cardin and Sir Hardy Amies
    1954-1960

This photos shows PIA's legendary Air Hostess Momi Gul Durrani in 1950s uniform. This uniform was designed by Frenchman Chausee Fortaignelle who was with PIA on a 5 year deputation from Pan Am. In this design a white shalwar and dupatta were set off by a green shirt with white cuffs and collar. Shoes and bags were black. The most interesting item of this uniform was a jaunty green cap for the hostesses. This uniform design was used from 1955 to 1960

This 1960s' PIA postcard from Rolf's collection shows PIA Air-Hostess in early 1960s uniform. This uniform design was created by Pakistani dilettante Mr. Feroze Cowasji. Mr. Cowasji introduced this design by making minor changes in 1950s uniform designed by Chausee Fortaignelle. The most obvious change in Mr. Cowasji's design was further abbreviation of already slim folded dupatta. This uniform design was used from 1960 to 1966

A PIA Air Hostess wearing uniform designed by Pierre Cardin. In 1966, Pierre Cardin, the renowned French fashion designer, came up with the legendary fawn and moss green summer and winter uniform edged with turquoise. The uniform consisted of a short, easy fitting "A" line tunic, slim-line trousers and imaginatively moulded dupatta that not only covered heads but also turned heads. The uniform became an instant hit, the slim-line trousers immediately were dubbed as 'PIA Pajamas'. Fashion-conscious young ladies, all across Pakistan, copied Cardin's design eagerly. This popular uniform design was used by the airline from 1966 to 1975

This photo of PIA Air Hostesses was taken in 1975. British dress designer Sir Hardy Amies, best known for being royal dress maker to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of United Kingdom, was responsible for the uniform that came in 1975. The purple and magenta kameezes had embroidered fronts, with green shalwars and pretty printed dupattas inspired by the folk wear of Pakistani village women. Teamed with black bags and smartly styled comfortable black leather sandals, these bright uniforms introduced a cheerful note on board PIA. This uniform design was used from 1975 to 1986

This official PIA photo shows airline's Air Hostesses from 1990s. Well-known Pakistani dress designer Mrs. Nahid Azfar created this uniform design in 1986. The shalwar kameez outfit was in 4 colours. Moss green and old rose for summer and burgundy and PIA green for winter. The winter uniform was worn with a traditional Moghul sleeveless waistcoat with flowery trailing vine pattern in green and maroon on a beige background. Both outfits came with matching dupattas trimmed with a braid. The summer outfits were teamed with striped chiffon dupattas trimmed with green and pink floral patterned braid. The braid was also sewn on the sleeve edges and the side slit of the kameez. The bags and shoes were in burgundy, and for the winter there was a burgundy coloured overcoat. This uniform design was used from 1986 to 2003
