Tips For Speeding Up Your PC



Introduction

In this simple tutorial, I will show you how you can keep your computer running nice and fast, Its all basic stuff but it makes a difference and It contains things which not everyone knows how to do.

Step 1 - Disk Defragmenter

Running a disk Defragmenter can in some cases increse the speed for your PC rapidily. What disk Defragmenter does is it puts all of your program and system files in the correct place. Over time certain files and folders that your OS and your programs need get moved around and when the program or OS is loading it will take longer to find the files and folders it needs. So by running a disk cleanup it will move these files to the correct locations therefore your OS and other programs wont need to search for the files.

To run a disk Defragmenter click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter

You will then need to analyse your system first to see if a disk Defragmenterm is needed, The analys only takes a minute and once its complete it will tell you weather you need it, If so simpily click on Defrag, sit back and let it run, Depending on how many files are on your HD it can sometimes take a while, But it will make a difference.

Step 2 - Disk Cleanup

Disk cleanup is a great program to remove files from yuor computer which arent needed, Some of the files that it deletes are: tempory files, compress old files, downloaded program files, tempory internet files and your recycle bin files.

To run disk cleanup click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup

Once it has started it will take a little while for it to find what files it can get rid off, This will take a minute or two, once this has finished you can select what files you want to delete, you can also see what the size of each file is, select the files that you want to delete and click ok, you will then be asked if your sure you want to do it, click yes and then let it run, it will takes a few minutes, but again it makes a big difference.

Step 3 - Startup Programs

Something that slows up your computer is startup programs, Whe your computer starts up you cann see all of the programs it loads when it starts by looking at the bottom right hand side of the screen.

To increase the speed of your computer go through these programs and see which ones you dont really need at startup.

Its different in eahc program but in most cases you will need to load the program, click on options and de-select Run on startup.

Step 4 - Desktop Icons

If you have a lot of shortcuts on yoru desktop, you can increae the speed of you pc by creating a new folder on your desktop and moving all of these shortcuts into the one folder.

Step 5 - Removing Old Programs

Some people seem to have large amount of old programs on their computer that they never use, Its best to remove these, Click start > control panel > add/remove programs.

Just select the programs you want to get rid of and uninstall them.
